Face Time: Hiker Activism

Sam Thompson Runs to Olympia

We've all vowed to change the world at some point in our lives. Usually that meant a nice warm feeling and a fist pump as we were seated on the living room couch. But then the commercial break ended and a rerun of King of Queens started up and we forgot the whole thing.

Not this guy. Let me introduce you to Sam Thompson. When his activism bug gets itching, watch out. He once ran 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 consecutive days to raise support for Hurricane Katrina victims.

While you are swallowing that selfless performance, let me tell you about his next one: Hiker Lobby Day this Wednesday in Olympia, Washington. Yeah, he'll join the rest of the Washington Trails Association crew at 8:30AM sharp to help our legislators make the right decisions to keep funding our recreation areas and trail maintenance projects.

But he's not driving down. He's running. That's 85 miles of pavement pounding in a single night to make a statement our lawmakers will not likely forget anytime soon.

More to come. Stay tuned.
