Overview

Good ol' Mount Si. The beast. The beauty. We decided to do this hike in the rain for a big reason: filming would be easier without the crowds that gather when the weather is good. I wish we didn't have to start out this overview talking about the high amount of traffic on this hike, but the reality is that you can't escape it – unless you go in the rain. On a weekday. In December.

Okay, that said, Mount Si is a great hike. You'll gain 3,000 feet of hard-earned elevation to get to the top, but the view is incredible and there's a bounty of exploration once you arrive on the summit.

Begin in the parking lot and follow the wide and well-worn path as it weaves through reclaimed forest towards your destiny. You'll be halfway there when you cross through the boardwalks at Snag Flats. Take a minute to read the interpretive signs and move on up.

Views are scarce as you ascend, but it's all worthwhile when you climb that last section of exposed boulders and see the pay-off at 3,900 feet up. Feel free to explore the multiple viewpoints from the top, check out the Haystack scramble (the true summit), and chit-chat with a fellow hiker or two. Be safe and make good choices.

Tips: Discover Pass required. Toilet and water available at trailhead. Keep a close eye on your food at the top – it's a zoo of unafraid animals (chipmunks and birds mostly) up there. Don't leave valuables in car.
