Bandera After Work

A trip report for Mason Lake
Posted by John Escher
Road Issues: Road is great
Trail Condition: Easy to navigate
Bugs: Not an issue
Snow Level: Starts at 5,000 ft

Finished reading Moby Dick at an I-90 Park and Ride just in time to get picked up by a couple of friends in a classic champagne Subaru wagon. How Seattle is that? No issues on the Forest Service Road, and the parking lot was as empty as I've ever seen it. Trail is solid, not much to report except for a brief balancing act on a slippery log where the falls crosses the trail in the early going. Reached the signed intersection for either Mason or Bandera, and we decided on Bandera because the meadow looked melted out and dry for the scramble. A few patches of snow to navigate near the top, but we handled it fine with tennis shoes. Gorgeous views up there, totally worth it. Had a beer and made it down safely for beef brisket on ciabata in North Bend.

Crossing through the talus field at 1.75 miles.

Powering through the meadows and feeling the leg burn

Summit photo with Defiance in the background. Views were out in full force.

A couple of tall boys for a couple of tall boys.

Looks like fun! Wish I could have been there. JP's foam dome gives yours a run for its money.
