Family Trek to Cedar Butte

Family Trek to Cedar Butte

A trip report for Cedar Butte
Posted by Nina Franey
Road Issues: Road is great
Trail Condition: Easy to navigate
Bugs: Bring spray
Snow Level: No snow

Our first time up to Cedar Butte- and we're glad we passed the crowds at Rattlesnake for this gem of a hike. The trail was relatively quiet (we encountered only a few other groups along the way), beautiful forests, a mix of flats and switchbacks. I had three kids with me (one in a backpack), and all did great.

A couple of things: definitely bring spray- bugs were out in full force. Also make sure to follow the Tmber directions- the signage between the parking lot and the Cedar Butte turnoff is unclear, and the trail marker for Cedar Butte from the Iron Horse trail is only marked with a smallish sign. The Cedar Butte trail itself was a little overgrown, but manageable. Most of the elevation gain happens here - the Iron Horse trail is pretty much flat for the first mile or so.

At the turnoff to Cedar Falls. Check the small sign in the upper left of the photo.

Happy hikers at the summit!
