Mother's Day at Lake 22

Mother's Day at Lake 22

A trip report for Lake Twenty-Two (22)

Road Issues: Road is great
Trail Condition: Minor obstacles, but hikeable
Bugs: Not an issue
Snow Level: Starts at 2,000 ft

First time to Lake 22 in years, and it was as lovely as I remember. Lots of water on the trail (except at the talus field), making it fun (and slippery) for the kids. There are a couple of blowdowns; both are very passable, but the upper one (near the end of the talus field) was more challenging for the kids and dog. The trail is largely snow-free except for last 100 yards or so upon arrival at the lake (about 2,500'). Lake 22 is still frozen over, and we saw a couple of avalanches while eating lunch, so stay on the boardwalk for now.

One of my favorite Mother's Days so far! We had our three kids and dog in tow, and all did great. The trail was pretty busy – I'm glad we got there as early as we did as we passed several large groups heading up as we were heading down.

And we're off!

Crossing the talus.
